Dr Cordell Doemling was Mason Verger's personal physician and caretaker after the latter's crippling. Presumably after Verger's attack at the hands of Hannibal Lecter, Cordell was employed by Verger. Doemling assisted Verger in the majority of his personal care, and also collecting memorabilia of Lecter on Verger's behalf. He also helped Verger in his plot to capture Lecter after the serial killer escaped justice. However, this seems to have been reluctant on Doemling's part, as he asked his employer if he could be excused watching Lecter being eaten by pigs.
In the pen, when Lecter was rescued by Clarice Starling, Verger demanded Cordell to shoot Lecter. Cordell, finally seeing Verger for the kind of person he really was, refused to do so (showing he had standards and lines he wouldn't cross). Lecter convinced Cordell to push Verger into the pit, even saying he would take the blame. Doemling switched the brakes off Verger's motorized wheel chair, which saw his hated boss crash to the floor and devoured by his own boars.
