Miggs

I.J. Miggs, known by the nickname Multiple Miggs, was an inmate at the Baltimore State Hospital for the Criminally Insane. He was placed in the cell next to Dr Hannibal Lecter's, the notorious cannibalistic serial killer. It was unknown why Miggs was in the hospital and for how long. Presumably he suffered from dissociative identity disorder, hence his nickname “Multiple Miggs”. He was a highly disturbed man who would hiss obscenities to those close by. When Clarice Starling passed his cell in 1983, Miggs made a crass sexual remark towards her. After her interview with Lecter, she walked past Miggs’s cell. He claimed that he cut himself. As she faced him, he threw semen at her, laughing maniacally. Lecter was outraged and found this act to be discourteous and "unspeakably ugly" and decided to help Starling with the Buffalo Bill case. Lecter decided to punish Miggs for his actions. Miggs was found dead the next day, after Lecter manipulated him into choking on his own tongue. For this murder, Lecter's tenth known, he was punished by Dr Chilton by having his books, drawings and toilet seat removed and a TV was placed in front of his cell set to a religious program.
