Reba McClane is the blind girlfriend of Francis Dolarhyde, the serial killer known as 'The Tooth Fairy Killer'. She was played by Joan Allen in Manhunter, Emily Watson in Red Dragon and Rutina Wesley in season 3 of Hannibal.
Reba went blind at age two after contracting diphtheria. The last thing she can remember seeing is a picture of a tiger, an image she tries afterwards to hold on to. As an adult, she works as a film processing technician at Chromolux Video, where she meets Dolarhyde, who works there as an editor. They begin dating after she reassures him about a speech impediment he suffers as a result of cosmetic surgery he had years earlier to repair a cleft lip and palate. Dolarhyde falls in love with her, and wins her over by taking her to visit a tiger at the zoo, reminding her of the tiger from her childhood.
Unbeknownst to her, however, Dolarhyde is a serial killer who murders entire families at the behest of an alternate personality he calls "the Great Red Dragon" after the William Blake painting The Great Red Dragon and the Woman Clothed With the Sun. The Dragon resents Reba being in Dolarhyde's life and orders him to kill her; Dolarhyde tries to protect her by eating the original Blake painting, hoping it will destroy his other personality. This only makes the Dragon angrier and more insistent, however.
When Will Graham and Jack Crawford close in on Dolarhyde, he kidnaps Reba and threatens to kill her and himself. When she pleads for mercy, however, he relents and - apparently - shoots himself dead. (It is later revealed that he shot the corpse of one of his other victims; Reba, being blind, was fooled.)
Reba is deeply traumatized, and is taken to the hospital to recover. Will visits her and tells her her that, while there was a lot wrong with Dolarhyde, there is nothing wrong with her, and that the affection she gave Dolarhyde probably kept him from killing even more people.
